We can still name every action figure in the original line of G.I. Joe toys, but sadly, we aren’t as familiar with the classic line of Barbie dolls. A quick Wikipedia check tells us Babysitter Barbie, Cheerleader Barbie, and Astronaut Barbie were among the O.G. dolls from Mattel—Street Rapper Barbie regrettably came later—but based on our Internet sleuthing, there has never been a Badass Barbie. Until now.
Seizing her opportunity, a Russian power lifter has dubbed herself “Muscle Barbie,” and regularly performs impressive fitness feats for her 420,000 followers on Instagram. Julia Vins, 20, flaunts her incredible muscles while banging out sets of strength moves like the 400-pound deadlift, which she demonstrates in the video below.
Vins first hit the gym when she was 15 years old, deciding to forgo cardio in favor of lifting. “I chose my own path,” she told The Daily Mail. “My family did not put any obstacles in my way, but many of the people I know were advising me to stop doing it and start looking for a real job.” She became good enough to enter lifting competitions, and developed her signature look along the way.
Now she’s motivating her Instagram followers—“I hope what you do inspires other girls to take control of their own bodies and empower themselves,” wrote one commenter on a recent video post—and we think it’s only a matter of time before Mattel comes calling.
