Alvin Delos Angeles, the suspect in the recent murder of his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend and college student, Mitzi Joy Balunsay, was shot dead while detained in a jail in Cavite.

He sustained several fatal shots in the head, chest, and abdomen, which caused his immediate death.
Initial reports revealed that Delos Angeles snatched a jail guard's gun while inside his prison cell, which prompted the police to fire at him.
Residents in the vicinity claimed to have heard more than 10 gunshots at around 3 p.m.
Delos Angeles was arrested at around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, in Barangay Kaytapos, Indang town, after the dismembered body of Balunsay was found inside a box left along the road in Barangay (Village) Deocampo in Trece Martires, Cavite.
The suspect earlier admitted to killing Balunsay because she refused to reconcile with him. He also shared that he killed her in a friend's house in Indang, Cavite, before having his way with her and eventually eviscerating her remains.
“Ayaw niya na pong makipagbalikan, so chinop-chop ko po, hindi ko po alam kung saan ko po ilalagay,” De Los Angeles had said.
The police had tagged it as a "crime of passion" and had originally arranged to file charges against the suspect.
As of press time, investigations regarding possible foul play is ongoing.
